  • Ron Harper is President at UAV Tower Innovations Inc. and is located in Durham , Ontario.   Recently we spoke with Ron and asked what his company does.  Ron stated “UAV Tower Innovations Inc. uses state of the art UAVs and equipment to capture high definition images and video with real time viewing on the ground for monitoring. The UAV we use can fly in almost any weather condition, rain, snow and 65km winds sustained and up to 90km gustsI”

  • Recently he was awarded a Microwave Line of site job in Northern Quebec at a Quartz mine for a company out of Toronto that he does work for all the time. The finished product looks amazing and this is his story on how the job was accomplished.

  • “This LOS is to help them get better internet as their internet is very slow and sporadic. When I arrived at the mine I took an orientation with the manager and as we were driving around the mine I told him what other aerial data I could provide him, like mapping the mine to give him an orthomosaic, volume calculations on their stock piles and 3D point cloud that they can use to overlay onto old maps of the mine in Autocad and the manager new right away that this was a great idea.”

  • “I had to wait 4 days for the weather to cooperate. This gave me time to layout all of the ground control points around both mines, these are used to make the project accurate during the processing stage. I did computer work each day at the mine waiting for the weather to clear and be available to go to work and get the job done. With the mine being on top of one of the tallest mountains in northern Quebec and the time of year made the weather very unpredictable. The fog and snow finally cleared on the 4th day but it was still very windy but within the RPAS limits. The wind speed was around 45-55km per hour with gusts up to 60-65km per hour, the Aeryon Skyranger   can sustain flight in 65km per hour winds with gusts up to 90km so I started mapping the mines and everything went great, the RPAS flew flawlessly.”

  • “It took me about 8 hours to fly both mines, a long day but well worth it. If I had a fixed wing I could have captured the data quicker but most fixed wing AC cannot handle these kind of wind speeds. I drove back to the office to start the processing and 2 days later I delivered the completed and accurate data that normally took them weeks to complete the old fashioned way.”

  • “We saved them time and money completing the drone survey and no one was put in danger walking around the mine surveying on foot. They were so happy with the results that I will be going back each year to complete these services for them.”

  • After speaking with Ron about this project he makes it sound easy and simple, and for those of us in the know, it is not.
  • Ron has been an advocate of doing things right, doing it safely, with lots of training and practice.

  • As always Ron, great work is achieved with patience, persistence and proper training.
